There’s A Reason I’m Not Dating A Nerd. I'm just going to wave the text of this at the next person who boggles at the notion that I'm seeing someone outside my subculture. ("You mean, G. doesn't go to cons?!" Fuck, kids, *I* only go to one and a half cons!) And you know, now that we're talking about it, I used to get this shit all the time as a punk girl, too.

Date: 2007-01-16 09:54 pm (UTC)My experience with dating geeks has been that they have strong research skills, shiny minds, and a vast unending willingness to learn. *Good* combination.

Date: 2007-01-16 09:58 pm (UTC)It's the repeated attitude of "huh? what would you see in a non-geek person? what could you possibly have in common?" -- often associated with the idea that unending willingness to learn, shiny minds, etc. will never be found outside geekdom, just sayin' -- that gets up my nose.

Date: 2007-01-16 10:26 pm (UTC)Though I have usually found that if I meet someone who is unendingly interested in learning, shiny-minded, etc., and I introduce that person to my geeky friends, they get along well -- and based on that, they've been known to try out a convention or two and find that tasty too. (Which is a win for me, since I'm lazy and therefore want to do as many things at once as possible.)
