Dear Writerly Friends,

Please, do not assume that just because I am a recognized name (apparently) and a well-connected person, that I see each and every and all calls for submission that are out there circulating, nor that I get so many private invitations that you needn't bother alerting me to other opportunities.

The truth is, I do get some private calls, and every once in a while, if I have a good idea, I will respond with an actual story. But I am a slow writer, and I am writing less erotica, and most calls I get are for erotic writing. Or else for personal essays, which are hard for me and have to hit just the right spot or else they don't get written.

In return, I promise to do the same for you -- that is, forward calls I think are appropriate for your writing (and/or post them here).

Thanks.

Submissions for Issue 6 (Island) are flowing in (beware: lots of island/water metaphors coming up). Is no person, or is everyone an island? What's you story about island living, visiting, and hopping. Is "isolation" what springs to mind - the solace and the suffering and the nobility of that. Think about seafarers. Think about Gertrude Stein and what she writes:

"What could interest an island as much," she says. "As the daily the completely daily island life?" Is an island a place to run away from or escape to. Think about the relationship between islanders and a/the mainland. Are you surrounded by water, enemies, love, fear? Have you been shipwrecked (dumped), deserted (dumped again), or discovered uncharted islands (found new love). Deadline extended to February 28. Full details on our website: http://www.chromajournal.co.uk/.

We are proud to have Bermudian poet, Andra Simons, as our guest editor for Issue 6.

I hear you.

I get few calls for submissions and am able to produce for even fewer since I, also, tend to write slowly. I am also in constant deadline crunches, so even some of the anthologies, etc. that I would love to have written for have to be turned aside for the regular work. Blah.

I don't even get invited to participate in erotica related activities happening in my own city, nor do I tend to get mentioned in reference books that cover subjects I'm familiar with (including porn).

But lemme tell you, when someone wants their book, magazine, video, website, event, or service reviewed or promoted, suddenly they remember who I am.

One of these days I'm going to be disgustingly rich and famous. Then "they" will tremble before me. Muahahaha, etc. ;-)
