I begin to understand

Last night, I discovered by accident that telling me the highlights of a menu I haven't seen yet (especially if we're on the way to eat there!) might be akin to telling me the plot of a movie or book one hasn't read yet, for other folks. I really wanted to shout "stop it! spoiler!" and maybe I even did.

This is still an imperfect parallel, however, as it's perfectly OK for me to look up the menu by myself, at my own leisure.
