I have an old couch that needs reupholstering, but is otherwise in good condition. I'm probably going to replace it this week. However, my frugal nature means I am loath to just throw it out. Is there anywhere in the East Bay that might accept it as a donation?

freecycle.org it's a great place to give stuff away and get stuff you need.

You beat me to it. Freecycle rocks, especially because, unlike a lot of charities that require things to be pristine and/or in perfect working order, there are a lot of folks out there happy to take a non-working printer or furniture needing reupholstered off your hands. :) Plus they'll come and take it away for you!

This might be a city thing, but I'm a big fan of just putting it on the street corner and tossing a "free stuff" ad up on craigslist. it's almost always gone within two hours.

Yeah, it's a city thing. There are some places in the east bay where that will work, but I know from my sekrit insider knowledge that pantryslut's neighborhood isn't one of them.
