Today for some reason I am in love with starfish.

Other loves: snails, frogs, lizards, fish. Mermaids, griffins, tigers and lions. Fossils. Driftwood and driftglass. The skeletons of leaves. Skulls, always, and other bones too. I still dream of the necklace my mother had (has?), made of the vertebrae of a fish. That's a pirate necklace, for sure. Lots of other loves, too. Those are just the ones that are on my mind today.

We found a starfish in the gutter in Chinatown. Sweet and sad and messy, like most of Stockton Street.

Here's that driving instructor. I'll keep you posted.

When I get back from Portland, I'll be on vacation and have buckets of free time. Buckets.

Oh! That's exactly the driving school I was considering.

they are only visible as little orange or white shapes against the reef, but you can see real live sea stars here.

Oh! I just went to the California Academy of Sciences recently and looked at the reef tank there. Now I want to go to Monterey, too.
