1. I have given notice regarding my freelancing for AVN, now that I have an official conflict of interest. I have one more batch of monthly porn to review, and then I am done.

2. I am looking for an occasional kinky book and DVD reviewer. Just putting that out there.

3. Chicken stew with peanut butter, sweet potato, and spinach: yum yum yum! That is going on my regular rotation.

4. We now have Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii.

Reviewing things is one writing gig I haven't done. I've done marketing copy, web content, tech manuals, and lots of other things, but not that. How would you recommend I get started doing reviewing, if I wanted to do that?

I got in the back door, reviewing-wise -- since I was already on staff at a magazine, I was assigned small reviews as a matter of course. Then I had clips I could show other people when I went to pitch reviews elsewhere. That's how I got the job at AVN, by showing them video and toy reviews I'd done for On Our Backs.

Front door wise, I guess I'd look through my samples to find something that looked close to a review -- or else write a review, and include a published non-review sample as well, and then pitch something I'd like to review to someone I thought might be interested. Alt weekly newspapers, for example.
