I haven't seen Juno yet.

I think it's coincidence (i.e., I don't think they're coming out of the woodwork b/c of the Oscar win, nor am I seeking them out due to same), but suddenly I have run across several reviews that make me wonder if I'm not lucky that I've missed it so far. Would I be one of the cranky decryers, or one of the smitten and swooning? Hard to tell.

Makes me really want to work on my new [data embargo], though.

After seeing this (http://mynorthwest.com/?nid=78&sid=30568), I'm not sure I want to see Juno. Damn, she really just rubs me the wrong way in that bit.

I think I will always have a weak spot for Diablo Cody even if I end up disliking her movies. And even despite this clip, which actually made me laugh with her over-the-top obnoxiousness.

Am I missing something? I thought that clip was a spoof- I don't think it's actually her.
I did not see Juno. I am content to wait for a while until one day, a year or two from now, I see it on a video store shelf or something. I had lots of people recommend it, and there's still something about it that just makes me... wary. I had several "please give me my $10 back" movie experiences in January, and my wallet still hurts.

It might not be actually her, but it's definitely a spoof. I liked the idea of it being her making fun of herself, and it seems a little more mean-spirited if she isn't :/

It probably isn't her, I'm probably having a brain melt. Move along...

I liked it, because I've rarely seen a film that valorised being sensible and reasonable while still kind and considerate, and not making any of the parties in a difficult situation of emotional conflict out to be simplistic villains, quite so well; will be interested to see what you think if you do get around to it.

My gut is that you would be pleased and satisfied overall (if not smitten and swooning), with some moments of cranky decryer.

My gut agrees with wild_irises's gut.

I need to write that rant on Juno...

it was one of the very few boy-girl romantic films i've ever seen that didn't make me want to puke.

that said, i arrive late and missed what sounds like the worse scene.

hard to make a movie about accidental pregnancy that comes to babyness / following the mother's trials and difficulties sympathetically taht doesn't come off as anti-choice somehow.

that said, there's a lot of good in it, and the charecters grow beautifully and change in believable ways. writing = damn good.

It's not the anti-choice angle I am worried about. It's the characterization and, yes, the writing (in part b/c I have read Diablo Cody's book, which is slick and funny but...and I am allergic to slick.)
