Urban living
Jan. 24th, 2004 06:21 pmWe had a shooter holed up in a building a block west of our apartment on Thursday. All afternoon and into the evening, they had the area cordoned off, with an ambulance on standby and at least two teams of police snipers in position.
Don't know the outcome of the situation, though I know it made the local news.
It's odd, in some ways, how blase I feel about this.

Blase
Date: 2004-01-25 02:45 am (UTC)Well, it is rather a Hyde Park kind of situation, isn't it? :-)
(For non UChicago folk -- I'm meaning the Hyde Park neighborhood in Chicago's South Side.)

Date: 2004-01-27 08:06 am (UTC)Just that it's the kind of situation that could happen in Hyde Park. For example, Ellen witnessed a shootout between a guy and the cops from our apartment, and I remember my freshman year living in the Shoreline, a friend in a different room was sitting on his couch when a random bullet came through window, whizzed by his head, and embedded itself in the far wall. After awhile, one might get blase about it, is all.
