I hate deadlines. I hate MS Word.

Word just lost my file.

I had saved it, I swear. The alias is still there. But the actual file is gone.

I switched to composing in Word just this afternoon, thinking that it was about time I joined this century and stopped making my editors open antiquated file formats. (Usually I used WordPerfect and convert to MSW5.)

I can't believe this!

Well, it's not like I was writing deathless prose; it's certainly reconstructable. It's a small thing, really. It's just frustrating. And time-wasting. And generally shitty.

Have you tried http://www.openoffice.org/, which can save directly into Office documents? Writer is supposed to be very powerful, but I personally can't vouch for that.
