Almost every day now, I call my family with updates on the gay marriage situation in the country. My mother is giddy with excitement over all this and how it's spreading to Chicago, New Mexico, who knows where next. This means much more if you've met my mother. She's an engineer. She hardly ever gets giddy over anything. It's just not her style. But you can hear her amazement and pleasure over the phone lines when we swap news leads and I tell her anecdotes from (almost) the epicenter of it all.

Three pairs of friends so far have sent me their wedding announcements. I'm sure more are on their way.

I'm jealous; I haven't gotten a single wedding announcement. Although I finally did learn yesterday that two people I care about were among the happy couples.
