Miscellania
Aug. 7th, 2010 11:54 pm1. Hard French this afternoon was the most fun I have had dancing in a long time. The music was perfect for me -- soul and girl groups from a DJ who clearly really loves the music, no kitsch and no irony involved. Plus, it was outside and it wasn't a late night.
2. I went to the doctor on Friday for my blood pressure check-in. I knew it would be a little high. I fully expected to get the "bad fat person" lecture. I was braced. I was prepared. In fact, I was going to tell my doctor how I plan to start exercising more because I do actually believe that being a bit more active will help get my blood pressure down those last few stubborn points.
Instead, the doctor just asked me about my headaches and prescribed me a diuretic. I kinda love her for this. (I still intend to follow my own plan.)
3. Being on a diuretic freaks me out in a way that drugs that alter my heartbeat don't. Huh.
4. I just found out that Elizabeth Short, better known as the Black Dahlia, is buried just a few blocks from here. This is kind of creepy for reasons involving long-standing writing projects that fell into place this morning, among other things. Seriously, I'm a bit rattled.
5. Ran into an old friend at the East Bay Underground Market this evening, working as a vendor. She's living in the Mission and is some of y'all's neighbor. It was good to catch up. The market was busy! And cute. A lot of vegan baked goods, which, OK. A lot of other yummy stuff, too. And nice to see the neighborhood out for the evening. Last night was much the same, with the Best of the Bay party plus Art Murmur happening. I love my hometown, I really do.
