It begins.

NCAA college basketball tournament season begins this week. I should also be getting the big box o' porno any day now.

Just to top everything off, Steven switches to his odd graveyard schedule starting this morning.

I had a lovely weekend anchored by two of my favorite things: G. and food. I think that Steven and I may have become addicted to The Spanish Table in Berkeley. Spanish cheese, Spanish wine, Spanish olives, Spanish ham, Spanish fish products...what could be better? Plus Spanish crockery and glassware (which we have only admired at this point), Spanish chocolate, and pirate flags. Seriously.

Fritzi approves -- she went absolutely mad at the package of salt cod I brought home. I had to distract her with several salmon jerky treats. I love my kitties, but there is no way in hell she is getting any of my salt cod.

I did give her a tiny sliver of the ham, though.

If only...and you forgot....

If only they also sold Spanish soccer jerseys. :)

And they sell books about Spain and Spanish-speaking areas...which makes them even cooler.

As long as it's not Real Madrid, it's cool.
(yes, I understand the hypocrisy of a Man U fan saying this)
It's not like they have any Spanish players anyway. ;)

Don't worry, the jersey the boy desires is Barcelona.

Which is another cool thing about the Spanish Table. Very regionally ecumenical.

bitchybarcelonafan Come on, Man U's better; I've never heard of them being used as a political tool by a fascist dictatorship. They're just poster children for soccer capitalism *along with* Real Madrid. Two evils are worse than one. :) /bitchybarcelonafan

Alas, the current showpiece of Loyalty to your Region (other than all of Athletic Bilbao) is Raul, Madrileno (if that's correct) and R.M. galactico.

Your point is well taken, however. Beckham, Zidane, Figo and Ronaldo (B) are as Spanish as Ronaldo (P), van Nistelrooy, Solksjaer, and Keane are English.

Last time my friend Scott was in Madrid, he bought matching (Real Madrid) jerseys for his one year old daughter and himself.

If someone will be going to Wiscon or BookExpo, samizdat jersey delivery may be available...

My housemate is Cuban, his parents are originally from Spain. For his birthday we bought him an entire Jamon Serrano. It lived on top of the fridge in its very own special ham holder. It looked surreal against the lime green kitchen wall.
