pantryslutSimone is out with her cousin at the zoo this afternoon, so April and I got to have some rare singleton time together. We walked down to the Rose Garden -- both parties on foot, for once. There are no roses at the Rose Garden right now, it being January, but there are waterfalls and lots of steps to walk up and down and up again, and squirrels and birds -- and chickens! Someone's backyard chicken coop borders on the park; we stumbled across it by accident and spent some quality time chatting with the flock.
We also accidentally marched through a professional photo session. The photographer was stunned by April's looks. "You should get her into modeling," he said tome. "I am completely serious. Twenty-seven years in this business, I know these things. Those eyes! So expressive." He also asked what "nationality" she is, which made me giggle a little on the inside and stumble for a polite answer on the outside. I should have asked him in return -- I'm guessing Danish. Also gay as a rainbow flag, just sayin'. He also gets points for letting April play with his crates and his foam backdrops, which is why I was trying to be polite rather than snarky in my answers to him.
We also met a small child just learning to walk, and her mother. April almost literally ran circles around her.
And then we walked all the way home, April collecting stones in her hands as we passed particularly interesting decorative gravel beds. I couldn't get her to put them in her pocket. By the time we got home, she was ready for a nap.
I could get into doing this sort of thing more often.
