In case anyone is worried about my health re: that last post, I'm OK. Except that I am having a plantar fasciitis flare-up.

And I can't get in to see my most excellent podiatrist because when they changed my health coverage at the beginning of the year, apparently they reverted me to a different HMO that said podiatrist doesn't take.

I didn't see said podiatrist for the last flare-up, either, b/c then I was pregnant and I liked the blood lab on the other HMO better.

So I can have either the good blood lab, or the good foot doctor, but not both.

But, remember, in socialized medicine [sic], they'd take away our freedom of choice!

ETA: I think I am especially wound up b/c the orthotics I probably need aren't covered by insurance anyway -- this whole rigamarole is just for the doctor's visit(s).

Just want to say, I hear you.

Today it's $2500-3500 worth of hearing aid that I need so I can 1) hear and 2) stop going out of my mind from tinnitus and noise sensitivity, where item #2 is actually slightly more urgent right now. Which isn't covered.

I have a co-worker who wears hearing aids and he got a secondhand one on ebay for around $100 and paid another $100 to have an audiologist calibrate it for him. Not sure if your type of hearing aids would be available that way but it might be worth checking out.

i had that same orthotics issue. after arguing with them for six months, no, they would not pay for them. my podiatrist (love him!) gave me a discount because i had to pay for them myself rather than having insurance pay for them--you might ask your podiatrist if they would do something similar, if you get stuck paying for yours.

hope you feel better soon!

Anecdata: I switched to wearing sanita/dansko clogs 100 percent of the time and my persistent heel pain went away. They have rigid arch supports so they're kind of like having fake orthotics. They also are expensive, but probably less so than orthotics-sans-insurance-coverage.

The doc may be able to tape your foot to give you some relief...mine used to do that back when I was seeing a podiatrist.

I did jump online last night and put some expensive shoes on the credit card. Naot seems to do the trick for me right now; I'm currently having trouble with Dansko, though they've been good to me before.

Dansko in 2011 is a different manufacturer than Dansko from, uh, 2009-ish? Their shoes were made at the Sanita factory under a Dansko-owned patent. When the patent ended or whatever patents do, Sanita continued manufacturing the same shoes under the Sanita brand, while Dansko slightly changed their clog design--the "professional" is a bit wider in the heel, not sure what else is different--and continued selling under the Dansko name.

Discovered while trying to figure out whether Sanita was a knock-off or what, before spending $$$ on them. So I wear mostly Sanita because they're a bit narrower but I have some Dansko sandals that are very good.

*goes off to look at Naot shoes*

A ha! I'm probably having problems with the changed width. Good to know, thanks!
