Amy Winehouse RIP

This seems an apropos time to repost this. It's mostly about Winehouse and stage fright, and also gender (sort of) b/c, well, it's me. I wanted to turn this into a longer essay but it never quite happened.

ETA: One more unrelated comment. What I'm feeling right now is very similar, yes, to what I felt when I heard Kurt Cobain died -- another one we saw coming from a long way away. At least this time, though, I don't have a soon-to-be-ex-lover telling me that "I know he was important to your generation*, but he really wasn't a very good musician." Ha ha, speaking of craft and art, as it happens.




* The extra irony here being that I wasn't a huge Nirvana fan in the first place.

I'm very glad that no one I know has made such callous comments to me about Amy, because I'd probably lose my shit all over them. The loss of Clarence Clemons was hard on me and the loss of Amy is even harder - especially so close on the heels of Clarence's passing. I grew up listening to The E Street Band, but Amy had a profound effect on me as an adult and her passing is nearly devastating to me.
