Jack Halberstam has also asserted that butches are the only people whose sexuality is defined by what they do not do, sexually.

As an historian of virginity, I found that curiously short-sighted. As an historian of heterosexuality, i find it even more so.

I think that Halberstam is still best at mainstream pop culture analysis and much weaker on internal analysis of queer culture. He tends to be really blind to certain aspects of his own subjectivity and positionality, to get all jargony for a sec.
