Apr. 7th, 2012 08:43 pmSome days I think that there could be some seriously fruitful critical synergy if we assigned academics working in science fiction/fantasy to read slush. Especially, say, themed anthology slush. There are definite -- and fascinating -- patterns that emerge from the pile that are rather more telling than I think the individual original authors really intended. And, alas, these patterns will be completely invisible in the finished project.
(Before anyone takes me too seriously, I know that cites et. al. would be a nightmare. Now, maybe if an academic moonlighted as an anthology editor and got everyone to sign a waiver...)
Or you could just buy me a beer (that's $beer to you) and ask me to dish sometime, I suppose.
