Apr. 29th, 2004 03:55 pmIt's been a bit odd, working on my porno review deadlines while the industry deals with the latest HIV outbreak. The other night, I was watching a tape, trying to match faces to names -- always a special challenge when it comes to many male performers. "That face looks familiar," I thought while watching one scene with a friendly, easygoing, boyish-looking black guy and his big-breasted partner. And then I realized: it was Darren James, better-known now as Patient Zero. Oh.
And then there was the one this month that purported to be real, live, unscripted, unplanned, amateur street pick-ups. This was way more convincing than most (e.g. the BangBus series and its ilk) -- down to a small segment where they make the guy sign a release on-camera and ask him if he has the proper forms of ID. I mean, it could be real. What do I know? But the performers were not using condoms. Suddenly, the ultra-realism was a big distraction, and the sex was not at all sexy. Not at all.

Date: 2004-04-29 04:14 pm (UTC)I get that feeling (or, rather, lack of feeling) when you can tell that the actress is not only NOT having a good time, but looks physically and/or emotionally uncomfortable, sometimes even glancing off camera now and then. (I've never seen this happen with a male porn actor, but I suppose it's a possibility.)
The most memorable moment like that was a John Holmes clip I saw back in...'90 or '91. He was penetrating the woman from behind (anally or vaginally, I don't remember) and, now and then, the camera would pan to the woman's face and you would see her expression change from one of extreme discomfort to one of fabricated pleasure.
