Monday Kid Notes
Dec. 10th, 2012 03:25 pm1. There's a piece of parenting advice, about leaving snacks accessible to your young children in a special spot in the fridge, that I've been resolutely ignoring because of our particular refrigerator configuration. I just realized, however, that the bananas and oranges and such are now well within reach of my children. This afternoon has been an orgy of self-serve.
2. There's a lot of talk about reproduction and babies around my house right now. Simone is making serious plans for growing a baby in her body when she grows up, and -- I am not kidding --briefly went on a sperm quest before we redirected that one. Meanwhile, April has been declaring that she does not want to grow a baby. OK. Then just this afternoon she told me she wants to be a Mom (and so she needed another orange to grow up big and strong, see above), but she still doesn't want to grow the baby. That's a fine option too, kiddo.
3. I think they are both headed for a growth spurt soon. Evidence: Simone is more emotionally fragile than usual, and her face is rounder. Also, for snack today: April -- two oranges, a bowl of cheese puffs, one banana. Simone -- one box of yogurt raisins, two oranges, a banana, a bowl of cheese puffs. Plus they ate every single speck of their lunch, and that never happens.
4. Maybe April only eats orange foods. Carrot sticks, oranges, cheddar cheese, cheese puffs...Or maybe only foods in the red-orange-yellow spectrum: bananas, ketchup. No, wait, she loves blueberries too. And broccoli, but only the florets. Let me think about this again.
5. April's spaghetti: noodles plus "sprinkle cheese" plus ketchup.
6. Toddler logic by Simone: "It's a picture of a velociraptor and a triceratops and a baby triceratops. Babies have no hair so a baby triceratops has no horns."
