It's still Wednesday, I'm still reading

I'm now a few chapters into Anya von Bremzen's Mastering the Art of Soviet Cooking, which is fantastic. Much richer (and more politically astute) than I expected, filled with discussions of Gogol and the Zhenotdel and Jewish identity and the Ferghana valley and all sorts of stuff.

Although I'm not really sure it's necessary to insult Nadezhda Krupskaya's looks quite so much. ("...who resembled a misshapen tea cozy.")
