Toddler Notes
Sep. 22nd, 2010 12:44 pm1. April is apparently quite afraid of bees. Like, freak out screaming and flailing afraid, if one should fly too close. But she is also helpfully verbal about it.
2. Storytime at the Lakeview Library branch was hugely popular this morning, and my poor children were a little bit shy in front of a room full of babies and toddlers and parents. For a while. Then they went about trying to open the screen windows for a solid half-hour. That is, when they weren't collecting bookends from the shelves.
3. I think people tolerated their antics better because they look like boys today :/ Conversely, I think I have uncovered some of my own buried sexism in relation to my anxiety about their boisterousness.
4. How you know it's time for bottles to go: they chewed through another nipple this morning.
5. How is it that strangers can routinely mistake my children's gender and age and such, but they have an uncanny accuracy about guessing which one was born first? I don't think anyone who's ever offered an opinion has gotten it wrong.

Actually I'm letting
nihilistic_kid say it.
"It just strikes me that a disinvite actually works a bit better for a bunch of reasons:
1. it doesn't turn every Muslim at the con into The Topic. (Though I suppose it might be too late anyway.)
2. it allows people to actually chill a bit rather than having to spend the next few months revving up for a bad scene.
3. it keeps the GoH position as one of honor."

#1, to me, is the most salient point. Especially with the release of the official statement, it feels too much to me like we are again asking the people most hurt to do the heaviest of lifting. And that's not sitting well with me today.
