May. 25th, 2011 09:34 pmSimone has developed two "games" recently that would be highly irritating if it weren't for the fact that she is two and a half and thus completely transparent in her attempts to manipulate adults.
The first game is the "I'm stuck" game. She likes to, for example, lie on the floor with her feet under the couch and proclaim, "I'm stuck, help me!" until she is "rescued," even though she can of course do it herself if she wanted. I'm working hard on trying to get her to distinguish the play versions of this from the handful of times when she really does get wedged somewhere (usually her shoe, caught in the child gate or, yes, under the couch).
The other game is the "it hurts" game, as demonstrated today when it was naptime. "I can't lie down, my back hurts!" came the cry. Uh-huh, kid. Also "my toes hurt" (a.k.a. "carry me") on our walk yesterday and many other variations. This is not, needless to say, one of my favorite games.

May. 25th, 2011 11:59 pmIn other news, I am really ready to be done with rain for a few months. We had to skip the playground this morning due to the downpour, which had the usual predictable effects on my children's behavior. Plus it's hard to push a stroller uphill one-handed while the other hand holds an umbrella. That was a bit of an unexpected workout...
I especially miss warm rain. And rain that held off until the temperature dropped after dark.
