My mother almost swallowed her own...something last night, when I told her that I used to think of myself as a low-profile sort of person, off doing her own thing in the corner and not really noticed. Even after I reassured her that I've mostly gotten over that particular bit of self-misperception, you could hear the repressed disbelief in her voice.
