Well, it's quite a curious thing, but the etymology of the word pecan is actually based on a spelling error. Originally it was two words: de, meaning "of" and can meaning "can". So the logical answer to your question is qite simple. Pecans usually come from cans. Surprised you didn't know that.
Could "Tree" be a place called Tree, rather than a description? Like a town somewhere in the south called "Tree". Or it could be a Radical Fairy who took the name "Tree" for his Fairy Name. Sorry, is that too concrete?
