There is a small plastic bag in the break room labeled with a Post-It: "Pecans from Tree."

Makes you wonder where *other* pecans come from.

Well, it's quite a curious thing, but the etymology of the word pecan is actually based on a spelling error. Originally it was two words: de, meaning "of" and can meaning "can". So the logical answer to your question is qite simple. Pecans usually come from cans. Surprised you didn't know that.

I'd buy canned pecans if I could.

We can buy pecans from a can in Waukegan.

Could "Tree" be a place called Tree, rather than a description? Like a town somewhere in the south called "Tree". Or it could be a Radical Fairy who took the name "Tree" for his Fairy Name. Sorry, is that too concrete?

I so wish we had a Radical Fairy named Tree in my workplace.
