I finally got myself pierced. Two new holes, one in each ear. They appear to be healing nicely. I will now not be able to pass for a boy, I suspect, for at least 6-8 weeks, but the rings are not so distressingly girly that I think this will be a problem.
The symmetry still annoys me, but you two were right, this is the way to go.
The unintentional symbolism, however, delights me.
