Mar. 16th, 2005 09:50 amThis morning at the coffee shop, the proprietor and I discussed the gender of folding money. "I've noticed that a lot of women fold each bill individually," he said, then threw up his hands, "not to stereotype or anything, I mean, not everybody does this, I just noticed. I wonder if it has to do with purses or something." I assured him that first of all, I had never noticed any such thing but it sure was an interesting observation, and that second of all, the fact that my bills were all separate today was coincidence and laziness and the fact that my pants pockets aren't suited for carrying money around in them.

(I think the latter habit comes from being a cashier for many years and being told that all of the bills had to be facing the same way when I turned in my drawer at the end of my shift.)

Did the coffee shop proprietor mention anything he'd noticed about how men handle their bills?

Yes, he said they tended to have theirs smoothed out and unfolded, in the wallet.
