elevator update
Apr. 21st, 2005 12:49 pmGot myself sent home. The shaking probably helped.
It's funny how fears can be like fetishes. I was mostly OK in the elevator, aside from some wooziness, until they cracked the elevator door (for ventilation purposes). I'm afraid of elevators with glass doors, cage doors, windows, and no doors. Yes, that weirdly specific. And faced with that big slab of interior wall, I was reminded of exactly how trapped we all were. And then, though more comfortable physically, I was more scared.
I may not have been claustrophobic before, but I might be now, at least for a little while. The Transbay Tunnel and the downtown Oakland BART tunnel were no fun. I was lightheaded again by the time I got off at my stop.

Date: 2005-04-21 08:11 pm (UTC)I'm so sorry about the traumatic elevator experience. I think I would have reacted the same way after they cracked the doors, especially given the drop that occurred before the elevator stopped. I'm glad you're okay aside from being a bit shaken.

Date: 2005-04-25 12:21 am (UTC)My sympathies. I also struggle with some elevator fear - my doctor used to be on the 17th floor of 450 Sutter. I had to switch, my BP was always too high by the time I'd psyched myself up to get to his office.
