1) I may have broken my toe Friday night.

I'll never be sure, because I have no insurance so I won't be going to the hospital to get x-rays. They couldn't do anything except tape it up and prescribe painkillers anyway. But I might have just sprained it or something.

How did I do it? I stubbed it on a box corner.

Which toe? fourth right.

Symptoms: swelling and bruising on both sides of the toe (top and bottom). Plus this really amazing pain the first two days. It would just come out of nowhere, out of the most minute movements or stimulation. That's what really made me think it might be broken. Once I taped up my toes, it mostly went away. Mostly. I had a pretty dramatic limp for a couple days.

Several days later, I'm still afraid to bend it, but by now it's just a little sore-feeling. Every once in a while that sore pain blossoms out into an achy flower, but that's manageable.

My right foot was already still healing up from where the kitten accidentally mauled it (drawing serious blood and perhaps leaving scars), so I really look bashed up now.

2) I get the impression that my reading at Perverts Put Out! on Saturday (didn't know I was reading on a broken toe, didja!) went really well. It's an odd story, and it didn't have any sex per se in it, so I wasn't sure how it'd go over. So I'm pleased that I got so much positive feedback from it. Several people asked me if it was in print anywhere. No, it's making the rounds. Suggestions gladly taken -- who's likely to publish a bittersweet, understated story about zombie strippers?

3) Since the news is out, I'll post it here: Black Books is no longer taking on any new projects and may eventually close up shop entirely in a year or two. I still have my job, don't worry. And, since I've been asked at least once, Problem Child is not in any danger, since I do that under my own auspices. We're looking into ways to save the Black Books farm in the meantime, but I understand Bill's need to move on. There is no drama here, really. I'm happy to answer questions, too, though I suggest that those who know Bill bug him instead, since it's his gig. Perverts Put Out! and other events will continue for the foreseeable future, too. And we've still got books to sell!
