I haven't seen A Fool There Was, even though it's more or less Bara's only complete surviving film, if I recall correctly. I heard that it was just kinda middlin', although undoubtedly influential. I'll probably get around to it eventually.
I really, really wish Cleopatra wasn't lost. More than any other lost silent film, and there are lots to mourn.
Have you read Kim Newman's story "The Pierce-Arrow Stalled, And... " ? It's set an alternate history with no Fatty Arbuckle trial, no Hays Code and mainstream cinema becoming much more sexually permissive much earlier, and it's very amusing indeed. I think it's in the collection Famous Monsters, which I would recommend on general principles anyway.
[ Have to use a Brigitte Helm userpic with this even if it's not exactly the mood that pic's normally for. ]
