Aug. 28th, 2003 03:13 pmOK, so let me tell you about this new space of ours.
Our apartment-to-be is located in lovely downtown Oakland, just the other side of Lake Merrit. The lake is a short stroll away; so is BART.
The apartment itself is a two-bedroom place, plus a long and narrow sunroom at the back. That's *two* extra rooms, folks. There's no outdoor space per se, but the building has a courtyard (with palm trees! and a grill).
The kitchen is electric, and there's no diswasher. But let's repeat: two extra rooms. Groovy location near BART, Chinatown, and Lake Merritt.
Oh, and let's add: parking. Laundry in building.
And a bathtub.
And I get to have an office! (How will I feel, tucked away from everyone and everything? I kinda liked working next to the kitchen like this.)
(Where will we put the stereo? Or should we just buy more speakers?)
The kitchen is small, but with more storage space than I have now. The oven is on the wall, which is good for tall people like me.
Another cool feature: there's a little pegboard divider separating the dining nook from the entranceway. This pegboard is crying out to be an art project. Either that, or we all hang our shoes on it as we come in the door.
The whole complex feels a little like a shabby relic from the 50's. not shabby in an un-kept-up way, but shabby in a slightly-dated, bohemian sort of way. At least to us. Maybe we're projecting. We'll just have to have lots of friends over to tell us what they think.
The sunroom/den gets lots of light, which will make the cats happy.
There are plenty of unbroken planes along walls to put bookshelves.
This is going to be so cool.
