Since I know at least two or three people on my friends list have proofreading experience, I'm just going to throw this out there. I may have a lead on a semi-regular proofreading gig -- a friend recommended me to a potential client out of the blue. They want to see my resume. I don't have a proofreading resume, because I've never actually been a proofreader in an exclusive professional capacity. In other words, I've done lots of proofreading as part of my job, but I have never *been a proofreader.* I can fudge, but that's not the problem. I don't know what a proofreading resume might looks like, actually. Would any of you be willing to point me to a model and/or show me yours? Thanks, and feel free to do this via email rather than LJ.

I say: Send them your usual resume, and don't worry too much about it. It's rare that proofreading is one's profession: Rather, writers and editors are tapped for proofreading as part of their job. The fact that you've been widely published, and have edited others' work, will stand you in good stead.

Funny... at MacWEEK, most of (all?) the proofreaders were former journalism majors, while all the editors majored in something totally unrelated, like music.

For this gig, you want your resume to show general freelance editorial experience. It is pretty much presumed that people who can copy- or line-edit can proofread.

I'm sending you as a Word attachment the resume of mine that I would use to apply for such a job.
