Man, my forearm aches. Is it RSI, or the spanking I delivered on Friday night?

Bruised my palm, too.

Sorry, enquiring minds will have to wait until I am less sore for details. But yes, it was a lovely weekend, thanks.

In other news, the need for a good Middle Eastern market has become acute, as my tub of olive oil is getting low, among other things. Also a source for loose genmai cha. This tea should not be confined to tea bags, it should be allowed to steep free!

I may just BART out into the Sunset if I am not soon successful in a more local way.

I just found this list of middle eastern stores. I'd be into making an afternoon of cruising the east bay ones with you. I'm dying for some lib (dried watermelon seeds). I also notice some aren't listed, and I will try and compile places I've noticed. (http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~turk/MiddleEastGroceryStoreList.htm)

Genmaicha: Peaberry's on College, the tea place on Piedmont, Pete's, and there's always Oakland Chinatown.

Sorry to hear about the RSI. I've got it, too, in my wrist. Fisting, I think. Sad.

Thank you for the very cool list! We will definitely have to make a date to go cruising them for edibles.

My RSI is mostly under control, if I remember to do my exercises, but I do get flare-ups (and I need a new mouse) and need then to take breaks.
My flare-ups, of course, usually coincide with deadlines.

P.S. I once asked Carol Queen and Robert Lawrence about RSI's and fisting -- they reminded me that as long as you keep your wrist in a neutral position, compression is actually very good for such injuries...

Berkeley Bowl also has some pretty good (not spectacular) loose genmai cha.

I'm betting that the Pacific East mall has _spectacular_ loose genmaicha, and Lori, you would love it anyway

(Wish I had a job flexible enough for middle eastern market cruising ...)

The Pacific East Mall was right around the corner from two of the places we looked at when we were apartment-hunting. In fact, the rental agent of the first place enthused to us about how nice it was, you didn't have to hardly cook at all, you could just bring dinner home every night -- and then she stopped and kinda blushed and said, "of course, I'm Asian, maybe it wouldn't be so exciting for you."

She was so, so wrong. Too bad the apartment itself was just OK. (The second one was already rented by the time we were ready to apply.)
