Editorial ethics prevented me from editing out this paragraph from an article this morning...

(I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, and can say with a certainty that the greater metropolitan area has a very low hipness-per-capita, which is my own little measure of the worldliness of a city. Statistically speaking, the area’s large population of over 5 million means that there’s a liberal element there, but when that’s expressed as a per-person ratio like "hipness-per-capita," not only does Chicago fall way behind the obvious number one city, New York, but it trails smaller yet cooler places like its Midwestern neighbor, Minneapolis. The most comparable locale in terms of "hipness-per-capita," or lack thereof, is Detroit.)

...but you may picture me here with steam coming out of my ears.

I don't know how to fact-check a statement that boils down to "I think Chicago is lame, so there." It's an opinion dressed up in statistical language, but I can't fix that. (If it's much beyond grammar and the spelling of proper names, it's not within the scope of my job anyway.)
