I want to state for the record that I have nothing against beets per se. They are not a loathsome food. I have eaten them with pleasure once or twice, even -- just never prepared by me.
And they're fun to play with when experimenting with natural dyes. In fact, they fulfill all sensual requirements except exciting my taste buds. I like handling them, I like looking at them, they can even smell nice -- I am just indifferent to their taste. Sorry.
