Things I need in my life:

1) A career change. This is why I'm taking a copyediting class, and why I'm applying to graduate school. Cuz I'm tired of freelance writing. Worn out.

2) A hands-on hobby. Where I can make something and see it when it's done. Cooking is my primary hobby in this regard, but I could use another I think.

3) A fitness activity. Preferably with an upper-body component to help with RSI prevention. I am in serious jeopardy of becoming a couch potato for the first time in my life.

Suggestions?

I'll play on the field hockey team, but I don't do crochet.

How about yoga? There are lotsa places to go in O-town, and it would help the RSI a great deal. I would advise against power yoga, just some hice gentle yoga, at least to start.

And then you could get into some *very* kinky positions at the next Black Sheets party! [naughty grin]

My physical therapist suggested yoga. Which of course (though I love my PT) makes me slightly biased against it. It's so...nice. But I'm still considering it.

Well, it's more naughty than nice when you consider that the Lusty Lady had to put out a memo stating "The live stage is not your yoga studio." At some point almost all us gals were doing yoga there ... as naked yoga shows off all your naughty bits (certain positions at least) while at the same time getting you in good shape!

When I come back I'll be happy to do yoga with you, should you take it up. I always need someone to motivate *me*!

hobby/fitness

I like art for a hands on hobby - even if I never show it, I think it is fun to do collages and watercolors. Not sure if it counts as a 'hobby' but it is hands on, and you do make something. or maybe book binding? I want to try that.

Walking is still my favorite fitness - no need to join a gym, but maybe not so upper body unless you swing your arms around. do you want team vs individual? cardio vs muscles? volleyball? swimming?

Walking is my favorite fitness activity, too; it's probably time for new shoes, that'll help.

I think individual activities are probably best suited for my temperament, though buddies to motivate me to gett off my butt are always a bonus. I think I still have fat-girl trauma around most team sports.

And I think I'd enjoy some form of art as my hands-on hobby, too. Maybe I should take a class (after this set of classes is through). Maybe litho or some other form of printmaking? Some form of book arts might be fun, but I worry (perhaps needlessly) of becoming too book-focused in my activities that way.

I've heard yoga is great for rsi, but I haven't been able to get my own ass in gear to do it regularly. I'm having a lot of fun with fire dancing, which is definately upper body excercise, and it looks cool, too. Shall I add you to my list of people to make black light poi for for christmas?

hobbies--sounds like you aren't into needlecrafts, what about homemade bdsm toys? check out The Frugal Domme if you need ideas. I have been wanting to have a get together for people to do this kind of thing.

I'm always evangelical about [livejournal.com profile] aikido, given half a chance... and I'm
considering my self to have been chance-enabled. %-}

P.S.: Putting my money where my mouth is, if you want to visit a
beginner class at my dojo (http://www.aikiarts.com) sometime...
