Dear Headache Diary,

I know the nice physician's assistant said that our headache patterns can change as we get older, but among the very last changes I really needed was to acquire a monthly menstrual migraine. Thanks.

Although changing a tampon while having adrenaline shakes sure is interesting.

Yours,

Lori

i'm going to a chiropractor for migraines, and it seems like its helping. it kind of depends on how your migraines start but (if you can afford it/insurace covers it) it might be worth it to have a pre-menstrual adjustment scheduled.

I was starting to have PMS headaches, but ibuprofen zapped them and they were nowhere near as bad as migraines. I don't seem to get them now that I'm solidly perimenopausal. Perhaps these will go away for you.

Tell me more about the adrenaline shakes, is that also a new menstrual cycle symptom? I used to get depressed during PMS, but now I get anxious.

The adrenaline shakes are associated with the migraines, whenever I may get them. They're a sign that the headache is going away, actually.

Do you know about motherwort? Best. Thing. Ever. You get it as a tincture in a dropper bottle from any health-food store. Makes you a bit sleepy, but less so than most over-the-counter cramp drugs. Amazing on monthly symptoms and good for headaches too, I've used it to head off a migraine more than once.

I'm thinking of all sorts of evil remarks about inserting foreign objects while your hand is vibrating, but they probably wouldn't be very funny right now. Hope you feel better. Migraines suck the big one.
