I like the distinction between being nice and being kind. I am very kind. Or at least I try. I am maybe not so much the nice -- and I definitely don't try very hard here.

I can certainly relate to that. Kind I try for. Nice, to me, sounds like some of the bits of my upbringing where not rocking the boat, and not arguing with people in ways which would upset them even when they were being both irrational and unpleasant and arguing with them was clearly the right things to so, were perceived as virtues. The which I do not do.

Good fer you. It'll come in especially handy when you're raising a kid. 'Coz good moms are mean moms, sometimes.

But somehow, I don't see you trying to make your kid be your whole life and best friend or anything....

Of course he gets to be the good cop. That's what uncles are for. (Also for punishment, when father's too angry and mother's too fond....)

Me, I suggest that you & G mix it up, or the kid will surely catch on. 'Coz you *know* y'all will be raising a genius kid.
