Something about being back in the Midwest for almost a week must have gotten under my skin, because when I got home and found three pounds of ground beef defrosting in my fridge, I immediately thought, "sloppy joes!" and called my mother for the recipe.
Sloppy Joes, as made by my family, requires a cup of ketchup. I used half curry ketchup, because that bottle has been sitting in the fridge for way too long. It worked.
The house smelled like cooked ketchup for the rest of the day.
I also threw together a quick apricot crisp last night. Not bad. A little tart. Maybe the apricots weren't quite ready yet.
Ate up all the cherries with the two Wisconsin cheddars last week, but there's still a handful of peaches, two pints of strawberries, and still more apricots in the fridge. I think maybe it will be cobbler and/or gallette time this week as well. Plus strawberry shortcake, of course. Of course.
This week, Steven is mostly cooking. I will make the fried rice with ginger and peas, I think, because it sounds so delicious. I'm trying to take it easy for a few days yet, and that includes not wearing myself out in the kitchen, much as I love it.
