1. I thought that the accepted wisdom, in celebrity circles, at least, was that if your wife was impossibly hot, she was clearly a beard -- not if she "looks like the rest of us." (cf. Posh Spice.) I thought the plain-Jane logic only applied if you were civilians, like me and Steven, maybe. ;)

2. Speaking of Posh Spice, this is the first time I have really ever found her to be hot:

Still too skinny, though.

I'm thinking suddenly of buying a really big pair of aviator sunglasses...

3. In other news, have I mentioned that WisCon is over my schedule is a lot more loose? P.S. Don't you dare laugh at that last word choice.

4. Reading Judith Berman's Bear Daughter and liking it a lot, despite the fact that it's a mass market paperback (not a snobbish comment on quality, I just find them harder to read these days).

5. I enjoy being a professional gay man more than being a professional kinkster.

6. It's almost summer.

7. In the box: a lot of apricots! And the summer squash is starting to back up. Also peaches, cherries, two ears of corn.

8. I have a lot of potatoes and carrots to give away if anyone's interested.

9. I don't think it's a compliment when yr boyfriend says, "you smell like fish sauce," but I guess it isn't an insult either. At least, if you cooked something with fish sauce the night before. (Green beans and pork, delicious as always.)

10. Post-WisCon, my inbox feels lonely. Send me a note. Or a text, if that's your druthers. Tell me a story, tell me a secret, just say hi. Hi!

I don't think it's a compliment when yr boyfriend says, "you smell like fish sauce,"

I think it's *highly* context-dependent. As in, it depends on exactly what was he doing, and where, when he said that.

[This is me, trying to keep a straight face and failing utterly.]

Still too skinny, though.

I had the same exact thought. The girl looks like I could snap her in two without even breaking a sweat.

In the box: a lot of apricots!

You wouldn't happen to have a good recipe for apricot cobbler, would you? The ones I've found online don't have crumbly toppings like apple cobbler, but biscuit-like toppings (in fact, several of them call for Bisquick).

I think, due to dessert linguistic taxonomy, that if you go looking for "cobbler" what you'll find is almost always going to be a biscuit topping. If you want a crumb topping, look under "crisp".

And, I did just make apricot crisp last week, and I can send the recipe when I get home tonight. (Along with the sloppy joe recipe I still owe [livejournal.com profile] serenejournal.)

Thanks for the tip and forthcoming recipe!

Right. What she said. Because the biscuits look like cobblestones. Cobble = cobbler. Get it?

(There are a zillion different fruit-with-something-on-top recipes. Betty, slump, crisp, crumble, cobbler (and pot-pie if you're a chicken instead of a peach) and they're all slightly different and there's gotta be more besides.)

So am I mistaken in thinking that what's often called "cobbler" at restaurants is actually what you guys are saying is called "crisp?"

Prolly. I just had a fun spelunking expedition thru several editions of Joy of Cooking, but I don't have time to write anything up now. Watch my LJ later on today if you want.

P.S.

You're welcome. Thank you. And, wow, I feel bad for Hugh Jackman's wife. Can you imagine being her and having people basically saying, "She's not attractive enough to be his wife, so he must be gay."

It certainly says something about people who say that sort of thing and what they think marriage and stuff is all about, eh?

Seriously. It also goes to show how self-centered they are, because they're basically saying "I don't find that woman attractive enough to be Hugh Jackman's wife." As if their standard of what's attractive is all that matters.

Hee. I've been telling myself the same thing about Ewan McGregor for years. I still haven't given up hope.

Hi! I wish we could have had beer/coffee/meal together at WisCon. :( Maybe next year!

I feel like I missed so many people at WisCon! I even only managed to have lunch with my co-chair b/c it was on the schedule.

I know the feeling exactly. I didn't get to see nearly as many people for a good chat as I wanted to. *sigh*

So let's see if I understand this right: Because [livejournal.com profile] wild_irises and I are civilians, not celebrities, and she is teh h4wt and I'm just an ordinary zhlub, that means she's really gay?

Oh, wait....

Thursday or Friday next week? I don't have anything scheduled at all for either, so could do whenever.

Friday works for me!

Next question: where? I'm right around California Ave., and I don't have a car.

I do have a car, so.. either I can come there and we can do something nearby, or I can come there and we can do something not-so-nearby. :)

How about you come pick me up and whisk me away somewhere? I'll leave it to your choice, your town :) And that way I get a break from the same five things every week.

Sounds good to me. What time works for you?

12:30 is best, but any time between about 11:30 and 1:30 works for me.

12:30 works. E-mail me a destination? (sarah at techbrat dot com) :)
