I am going to personally slap the next ten people who say anything to me about any social trait being "hardwired" into our psyches without a specific, credible, peer-reviewed, primary source cite.

Ooo, is that a promise?

[thinking of some good traits to claim as "hardwired"]

:)

We still need to do Korean food and ice cream, too! Though ice cream can wait until it's warmer. Brr.

I know. I've got ice cream in the freezer that nobody wants right now. It's damn tasty, but damn cold. Sad.

But Korean food, I'm excited! Tuesday?

I can't do Tuesday :( And Wednesday I'm having...Korean food in the city :) But how about the week after?

The week after is great. Tuesday? Wednesday?

Like, say, the fact that we want ice cream more when the weather is warm than when it's cold?

(I'm not saying, mind, I'm just suggesting that you could!)

Oh, right, "social trait". That we want to eat ice cream with other people more when it's warm?

What's gonna happen to the 11th?

I will hand them a snapshot of the reddened hand prints on the last ten faces and say "you've been warned."

P.S. I love my friends :)

Quick - tell me how you define social trait, 'cos I might have to disappoint you.

Disappoint me how? It's not the claims per se that bother me so much(though the metaphor does), but the assertion without supporting evidence. The "everybody knows" quality of most of such statements, in other words.

Well, I guess I meant "disagree with you", but not for any particular reason. Just 'coz I was feeling my oats, so to speak.

::laughing:: Apparently, it's just smackdown day on LiveJournal. Comrade, I salute you.

Well, my astrologer says that men and women are hardwired to act differently. Or as Steve Jobs would say, act different. Does that count?

Will you also tell them that only computers have wires? (At least so far.) Dudes, it's an analogy! It only means we're referring to something deep seated, not that it's actually embedded somewhere in something physical in our corpus!

This exactly sums up why the phrase bothers me! Nailed!

Masochism is hardwired into our psyches.

(Thank you, ma'am, may I have another?)

I didn't think you were into that :)

Mimicry is a basic human capacity. And I think the guy is surrounded by, er, that.
