1) I read smut on Saturday night, at the Haiku earring party. I have mixed feelings about how it went. In retrospect, I should maybe have read some things less "difficult." Do I have anything that is less difficult? I don't know.

I loved Hanne Blank's story, though, the one that's going into the book that she and I are in.

2) It is a little odd that I ate as well in Madison in one short five-day stretch as I can at home in the Bay Area. L'Etoile in particular is becoming one of my favorite restaurants anywhere, due to their menu, philosophy, *and* their service. And, you know, the cheese. It is especially nice to go on Friday night and then to the farmer's market on Saturday morning and buy the same cheese you met and fell in love with less than 24 hours before.

Menu notes to follow when I've unpacked it. Right now, I will just say: bison carrpaccio. And doughnuts for dessert.

3) I have a small platonic crush on Sharyn November, and it is based entirely on this: she behaves exactly the way people imagine that I do.

Monday night, I ate dinner with [livejournal.com profile] nadyalec and [livejournal.com profile] merovingian at Cafe Montmarte, a little "French Bistro"-slash-college-hangout place near the hotel.

At the end of our dinner, our server asked why we were in town. We told him we'd just finished attending a feminist science fiction convention.

"Really?" he said. "That sounds fascinating."

He then asked us for a recommended reading list.

I am not making this up.

Of course we gave him one. And it wasn't even too long! (Our advice: start with the Tiptree Award anthos and explore.)

(I should get a tag.)

Dear Headache Diary,

As I noted in passing earlier, I took a lot of Excedrin this weekend, especially when I forgot to take my Claritin. In other words, it felt like most days, I was battling a headache of some sort at some point.

I did not have a full-blown migraine episode at any point in Madison this year, but I did kind of have a minor one on the way home. Holding still, sleeping on the bus and a *lot* of Excedrin seemed to help.

I think it is right clear now that I have allergy-related headaches. Yup. All the other known triggers, however, still apply as well, and it is wise to watch my sleeping and eating habits while away from home.

I just saw a thigh harness marketed toward gay guys. (Apparently it debuted at IML last weekend.) I cannot tell you how glad in a genderbently way I am that this device exists. Although also amused, of course, at the idea that you have to market it to each gender separately.

In other sex marketing news: Deep Throat Energy Drinks. Can't make this stuff up.

I think having the braces, and esp. the rubber bands, has made me *more* oral.

Sigh.
